The Resources Revisited series highlights existing resources available to the SLU community that may be especially timely or useful at certain points in the academic year.
Right now, we’re focused on preparing for summer teaching, particularly online courses taught in accelerated formats. To support you, we’re spotlighting a collection of resources related to designing and teaching an online summer course, all available on the Reinert Center’s Distance Teaching and Instructional Continuity resource page.
For summer teaching specifically, you might explore Key Design Decisions for Accelerated Courses, Considerations in Planning Summer Online Courses, and Four Things to Know When Setting Up Your Canvas Course. Together, these resources offer guidance on the structural decisions and design choices that go into planning and building effective accelerated online courses.
You may also find value in Teaching Online: Four Tips for Promoting Engagement, Inclusive Teaching Practices in Asynchronous Courses, Building an Online Discussion, Culturally Responsive Online Course Design, and Alternative Summative Assessments in Asynchronous Distance Learning Courses. These resources can help you think more deeply about engagement, assessment, and belonging in your summer class.
As always, we invite you to explore the full range of offerings on the Reinert Center website. If you’d like more personalized support, we’re happy to meet with you for a confidential, one-to-one consultation. Feel free to request a teaching consultation to discuss your summer course or any other teaching topic.
