Distance Teaching

Introducing the Reinert Center’s Updated Online University Teaching Skills Certificate

by Eric Royer, Program Director, Reinert Center

The Reinert Center has updated its Online University Teaching Skills Certificate. This newest addition to our long-standing certificate program is designed for SLU faculty and graduate students teaching in a distance format, and is meant to be a deeper dive into distance teaching topics and techniques.

To provide greater flexibility, participants can now meet an elective requirement through one of three options:

  • Completing an additional one week, asynchronous online course.
  • Attending two (2) synchronous distance learning workshops (via Zoom).
  • Participating in an Asynchronous Small Group Information Feedback (ASGIF)  session.

Core requirements remain the same: participants must complete Introduction to Distance Teaching, three (3) one-week asynchronous courses, and the capstone project.

Registration is currently open for the Fall 2025 courses Instructor Presence, Generative AI in Online Teaching, Accessibility in Online Formats, and Introduction to Distance Teaching

Spring 2026 courses will highlight online assessment, rubrics, and developing dynamic discussions in online courses.
